Feature Win #2

2004-05-30 20:52 by Scott Greer

The water truck broke and a racetrack escaped! After a few weeks of too much rain, the racetrack at Victory Lane Speedway was a smooth and dry slick racefest. After starting 3rd in the hear race, the 5G car moved to the front fast. We base our program on making traction on dry racetrack, and it paid off Friday night. The point average system saw us start 8th in the main event. A daring move I still dont believe worked, we moved to second on the firt lap. A fast 1R car with Rick Delaine behind the wheel moved underneath me a few laps in. Thank goodness a yellow came out and I was able to cool the right rear tire. On the start I was able to pass Rick on the high side and started to work on leader Steve Glass. Another yellow with under 5 laps left, again allowing me to cool the rear tires, gave me focus to pass the leader and win! Well, it took a little longed than I wanted but I was able to drive Steve in further to turn 1, which made him loose off of 2. I pulled along side down the back straight and again drove in deeped into 3 this time, just getting by the 52 car and driving to our second win this year!

Race Track Prep Lessons from Jamestown

2004-05-20 02:24 by Scott Greer

After multiple weeks of ill prepared racetracks, we made of first trip of the season to Jamestown Speedway (Jamestown, ND) on May 8th to find a smooth, DRY piece of artwork! The staff and management of the track are the BEST out there. After drawing the usual high numbers we have been in 2004, I started in the back of the heat and fought hard for a 2nd place finish. Again the wonderful draw placed us 10th for the feature, lucky enough for us, the racetrack had multiple grooves thanks to the dry slick surface. After 4 laps I found myself in 2nd place and closing in on leader Chad Ohnstad. The race kept green, but I could feel the car loosing side bite (post race inspection found a blistering RR tire), so I changed lanes to compensate. I felt I really needed a yellow to cool the tires, but that never came as the race went green to checkerd, and I found myself losing 2nd at the line to John Corel Jr. All in all, this is my favorite racetrack out there, we will be back many times including the Jamestown Stampede in late September. For anybody who knows racing, this is one of the biggest, 250 plus cars and thousands of fans. I encourage everyone out there to come to a weekly show if not the Stampede to see how good this place is. Thanks for having us.

2004 Opener ends in win, again!

2004-04-25 18:48 by Scott Greer

For the second year in a row we were able to pull off a win at Victory Lane Speedway's season opeing race. After a decent heat race in which we fought a very tight race car, we started 7th in a very packed feature. The track got very rough, but the Specialty Fabricating car stood up well. A late race caution in which the front suspension was damaged left the crew and fans wondering if the car could go on. Luckly enough the tight condition was still there and the left front tire never touched the grond and we we able to make the winnig pass with 2 laps to go and go on for our first victory of the year. Again thanks to everyone for the help this winter.
