ARSON AT VICTORY LANE SPEEDWAY

2004-08-16 14:29 by Victory Lane Speedway

Victory Lane Speedway was the victim of arson late Friday night, early Saturday morning.

The suspects broke into the facility and attempted to light the bleachers, announcer’s tower, and vendor on fire. Fortunately, the bleachers would not catch, and a passing motorist noticed the flames from the tower and vendor and contacted the Ritchot Fire Department. The fire department responded quickly and was able to put out the flames before it caused excessive damage.

Through the hard work of Bev Weiss, Jamie Vernaus, Shannon Zelmer, Darren Zelmer, Larry Grabowski, Rob Comeault, and ‘Pumpkin,’ the damage was repaired and the Enduro 300 Scheduled for that evening was able to go on as scheduled.

The damage will not affect the races scheduled for the rest of the season.

The speedway management would like to thank the Ritchot Fire Department for their speedy response.

The RCMP and Arson Squad are investigating the incident, and have several leads.

Media Championship Race August 5

2004-07-30 12:44 by Victory Lane Speedway

WINNIPEG (MB): Forget sweeps, the number one media outlet in Winnipeg will be decided on August 5, 2004 at Victory Lane Speedway as representatives from various Winnipeg media will take to the track and race to the checkered flags.

Representatives from television, radio and print media will be on hand to turn some laps in Four-Cylinder Stock cars. They will be given a driver’s suit, a helmet, a car and turned loose on the 3/8’s mile dirt oval just before intermission.

“It’s going to be a lot of fun,” says VLS General Manager Jamie Vernaus. “This is a chance to see the people you watch, listen to, and read, tearing it up in a race car.”

Eleven different media outlets have committed to the race, so the track will be packed as the personalities bump and grind their way to the finish. The competitors are:

A-Channel: John Evanson

Global: David Bastl
Winnipeg Sun: Adam Wazny
Winnipeg Free Press: Ashley Prest
92 CITI FM: Two drivers - TBA

MID-SEASON CHAMPIONS CROWNED

2004-07-02 12:41 by Victory Lane Speedway

On July 1, 2004, the Mid-Season Champions were crowned at Victory Lane Speedway.

Nolan Olmstead finished second in the feature race to Kevin Sexton, but took home the Mid-Season Points Championship in the WISSOTA Modified division.

Bill Mooney won both the feature race and the Mid-Season track championship in the WISSOTA Super Stock Division.

Bill Klym won the feature on Mid-Season Championship night in the NOPA Super Truck division, but Stu Fraser took home the Mid-Season Points Championship. After the race, it was announced that Jim Hunter had taken the points title, but when the math was double-checked, Fraser had a one-point lead over Hunter.

Lawrence Enns won the feature race, and Rick Lowey finished second in the NOPA Street Stock feature. The two were tied going into the event, and it seemed as though Enns had won the Mid-Season points championship, but due to Lowey’s heat race win and Enns’s fourth place finish in the heat, Lowey took the points championship by one point.

Lee McRae won the Mid-Season Championship race in the NOPA Four-Cylinder Stock division, with his brother Les finishing second. When the points were calculated, the brothers who have dominated the class all season long, are tied for the Mid-Season points championship.

2004-05-20 14:20 by Victory Lane Speedway

The Thursday, May 20, 2004, races have been postponed until Friday, May 21, 2004.

With the rain Wednesday, the pits and parking lot are too wet-we could park cars and haulers in them, but we'd never get them out.

Tickets valid for Thursday's race are valid for Friday's race.

RACES CANCELLED MAY 13, 2004: DOUBLE SPECIAL MAY 20, 2004.

In the Super Stock division, Bill Mooney won the first two features this year in his Auto Trader number 2, and Rick Fawcett won the third in his Fawcett Auto Body number 71. Mike Martin has been close with two second place finishes and there are a handful of guys ready and waiting to take the top spot should these guys slip up.

THURSDAY NIGHT THUNDER SUPER STOCK SPECIAL

2004-05-10 10:34 by Victory Lane Speedway

Thursday Night Thunder continues with a Super Stock special May 13, 2004. The Super Stock feature will be 20 laps long, and they always reward the fans with fast and tight racing.

The Super Stocks consistently provide car counts in the high teens, and they all have the talent and the equipment to finish up front. With 2003 Champion Tom Balcaen moving on to race a Late Model with the Northern Late Model Racing Association (NLRA), the 2004 Championship is wide open.

Bill Mooney won the first two features this year in his Auto Trader number 2, and Rick Fawcett won the third in his Fawcett Auto Body number 71. Mike Martin has been close with two second place finishes and there are a handful of guys ready and waiting to take the top spot should these guys slip up.

PONY CORRAL ENDURO 300 SERIES

2004-05-07 15:33 by Victory Lane Speedway

Saturday May 8, 2004 is the first Enduro of the year at Victory Lane Speedway. The Pony Corral Enduro 300 will feature both Full Size and Four-Cylinder Enduro cars.

The Full Size cars will run 200 laps for a $ 1000-dollar first prize! The Four Cylinder cars will run 100 laps for a $ 500-dollar first prize! Any driver who can win both the Full Size and Four Cylinder race will get a BONUS $ 500!

Enduro racing is the purest form of stock car racing-you basically knock the glass out of your street car, install a roll cage and strap yourself in for 200 laps of bumping, grinding and side-by-side racing action. There are no yellow flags either, if your car dies on the track, it stays there and so do you. The only time the racing slows down is if a driver is stopped on the track in a dangerous position. But even then, the driver is removed from the car, but the car stays.

There are four Pony Corral Enduro races this year, all leading up to the Enduro Track Championship on September 4, 2004.

Racing starts at 6:00 PM. Get your tickets at Ticketmaster, or at the gate. ADULTS $ 15, SENIORS/STUDENTS $ 12, KIDS UNDER 12 FREE.

The Pony Corral Enduro is brought to you by Payroll Loans.

THURSDAY NIGHT THUNDER BEGINS

2004-05-03 10:08 by Victory Lane Speedway

The first Thursday Night Thunder of the 2004 Victory Lane Speedway racing season will feature the Street Stocks and Super Trucks. Their features will both be 20 laps long.

The Street Stocks are a highly competitive class, averaging around 20 cars a night, and they all have the talent to finish up front. This class was once an entry-level class, but today, these cars are anything but entry level.

While the Super Truck division doesn’t have the car counts that the Street Stock division does, they consistently provide some of the closest racing action of the night. The class has steadily grown over the years, and now there are a handful of drivers who can win any night.

As always, The Street Stocks and Super Trucks will be racing with the full Victory Lane Speedway race program of Modifieds, Super Stocks and Four-Cylinder Stocks.

Tickets available at Ticketmaster or get them at the gate. Adults $ 15, Students/Seniors $ 12, and kids under 12 FREE.
